One Wondrous Night
Christmas 2009
By Judith Shields Regini
As we wander through December,
with its Christmas songs of cheer,
There’s one important message that we all too seldom hear.
Christmas carols sing of snow and presents by the tree,
And Santa Claus is coming; you can sit upon his knee!

Amid the frantic rush of life when Christmas comes around,
It’s easy to forget the night the sky was full of sound.
The holidays are wonderful and pleasant to behold,
Especially when we focus on the greatest story told.

Two people traveled many days to get to Bethlehem.
When they arrived they got the news, no room inside the inn.
Inside a stall, they spent the night, this woman and this man;
And in a stable, cold and bare, the wondrous night began.

A tiny child was born that night, God’s perfect little son.
Jesus, Yahweh, Prince of Peace, the one and only One.
God sent His child to Bethlehem to save a troubled earth.
A gift from God that started with a simple, infant’s birth.

Shepherds standing in the fields were startled by the star.
Kings and princes, many days had traveled from afar.
Angels in the skies proclaimed the first, blest Christmas day
When Jesus Christ, the child of God, was born upon the hay.

May we recall each Christmas, as our family gathers near,
The tiny boy-child born from God to save us all from fear.
He came to earth to save the world; a star was shining bright,
Kings and shepherds knelt in awe, one wondrous Christmas night.

Merry Christmas!
