Christmas Memories

Christmas 2016
Since I was little, I’ve loved the things that meant it’s Christmastime.
Mean old Scrooge redeemed again and Rudolph’s brilliant ride.
Every Christmas, we still watch James Stewart’s wonderful life
And we sing those songs about a Christmas all in white.

But long ago the world did not rejoice a baby’s birth.
They didn’t know that He would come to save all those on earth.
As two weary travelers reached the stable at the inn
In quiet, cold, amid God’s creatures, His life would begin.

He didn’t cry as he lay all snuggled in the hay.
Mother Mary sat nearby and watched him where he lay.
Father Joseph, proud and scared, stood quietly beside.
This little family would become the source of Heaven’s pride.

Angel carols told the tale of a little baby boy
Born on earth, this child would be the reason for much joy.
Shepherds came down from their fields, to see the little child.
He was huddled, safe and warm, in the arms of Mary mild.

A brilliant star shown down that night upon the stable bare
And led three kings from far away to gather round him there.
They presented many gifts, myrrh, frankincense, and gold.
This small scene would soon begin the greatest story told.

Every year near Christmastime, as movies start to play.
Christmas carols remind us all what happened on that day.
The movies tell of trial and trouble, ending up in love.
That’s the story Christ becomes – God’s message from above.

So when you see the Christmas things start to show up at the store.
Remember back to the time when this season meant much more.
Remember Jesus in the manger; his mother so close by.
Remember shepherds, kings; remember angels in the sky.

So as the carol says so well, let’s praise the Son in song.
Let’s live our lives like Christmastime should last the whole year long.
“Then let us all rejoice amain, on Christmas Day, on Christmas Day
Then let us all rejoice amain, on Christmas Day in the morning!”
