Christmas Morn
by Judith Shields Regini
Christmas 1996
The air was crisp that early morn.
Tranquillity filled the air.
The townsfolk rose to see the dawn
and behold the wonder there.

For it is told that on that night
as weary mankind dreamed
a newborn child did join the world,
a glorious infant king.

His mother Mary held him close
as many gathered near.
They had come to see the child
and feel his presence there.

The angels sang with joyful noise
announcing then to all,
the child from God was born to us
in a manger in a stall.

The wisemen traveled from afar,
to see Emmanuel.
They gave him gifts of gold and myrrh
glad stories now to tell.

They gazed upon the child named Christ,
Counselor, and King.
They saw the Yuletide gift from God
and soon began to sing.

Each Christmas morn is still the same,
as joyful voices ring,
to sing the song of Jesus' birth
"Gloria! To the King!"

Merry Christmas!
