He looked across at sleeping friends and found himself alone.
He thought of how the next few days would one day lead him home.
Born a holy child of God, His life was one of grace.
Every action in His life had led him to this place.
He knelt before His Father, then bowed His head to pray.
Would that the cup of poison would pass him by that day.
Resolved to due His duty, He turned His face to God
Accepting pain and torment from a faceless, nameless mob.
From somewhere in the darkness, came loud voices filled with fear.
Shouting, they awoke His friends, who quickly gathered near.
Judas, friend, apostle, led soldiers to His side.
Then, aware of what he’d done, he ran away to hide.
Beaten, punished, ridiculed, they nailed him to a tree
And raised him up on Calvary for all the world to see.
Mary stood near, helplessly, and watched what happened there.
She knew His fate was in God’s hands and bowed her head in prayer.
The sky grew dark that afternoon, the curtain torn apart
Kings and soldiers understood the power of the heart.
With Heaven’s tenants looking on their blessed Savior died.
Soon to take His rightful place, at His Father’s side.
It would be a tragedy, if the story ended here.
But Christians know with certainty that God’s true grace was there.
Three days hence, in dawn’s new light, they found an empty tomb.
He spoke to them and calmed their fears and put an end to gloom.
His mission done, He had died and risen from the grave.
All sins repaid, no debt remained; He came to earth to save!
Hallelujah! Jesus Christ lives on high today!
Let us all sing songs of joy this wondrous Easter day!
