From a Child's Viewpoint
Easter 2021
by Judith Shields Regini
Walking down the crowded street,
Young Matthew tried to see.
He heard the shouts around him
as the people cried with glee.

Hosanna! They were shouting
Hosanna to the King!
Matthew was confused at first
As they began to sing.

He rode atop a donkey
No special carriage there.
No golden robes adorned him
No crown upon his hair.

Matthew grew to realize
That Jesus was his name.
To save mankind from shame and sin,
That was why he came.

Soon the man would suffer
At the hands of evil men.
He would wear those golden robes
And a woven, thorny crown.

They nailed him to a cross one day
And soon he passed away.
Friends and family mourned his loss
And carried him away.

Buried in a cold stone tomb
The rock was put in place.
People cried in painful need
To look upon his face.

Three days came and passed away
They found an empty tomb
Jesus met disciples
In a quiet upper room.

Jesus Christ is Risen Today!
Let us proudly sing!
Our triumphant holy day!
Jesus Christ is King!
