They mocked and tried to break Him and they beat Him till He bled.
Then they placed a crown of thorns upon His blessed head.

In the streets, the people watched as right before their eyes
The Son of God began the walk where they would see Him die.

A cross of wood placed on His back, he started down the way.
Tired and broken, He would fall three times that dreadful day.

As He fell the first time, they got Him to His feet.
Then they gave Him back the cross and pointed down the street.

Then He fell a second time; they roughly picked Him up.
They placed the cross upon His back; no one would interrupt.

Finally as He fell again, Simon took His place.
Walking next to Jesus he was blessed with Jesus’ grace.

They laid Him down upon the cross with nails in hands and feet.
Raising up the cross they felt their task was incomplete.

With a spear they pierced his side as life began to leave.
Watching down below the cross, His friends and family grieved.

He raised His head to Heaven and saw His Father there.
Silent, as He died that day, He raised a final prayer.

All who loved Him faced a world so dark and filled with hate.
They could not know this painful death did not complete His fate.

All day after, mourning, weeping, they grieved in dark despair.
There was no difference Saturday; He was still not there.

Sunday as they neared the tomb with hearts so full of pain
They were startled to look up and see His face again.

Right before them, smiling, loving, they saw the living Lord!
Hearts were full of happiness and they ran to spread the word.

Jesus Christ is Risen!  Glory! Hallelujah!

May the peace and grace of Jesus Christ our Lord bless you this Easter and always.
