Loneliness
by Judith Shields Regini
They look out over the ocean, frozen in time.
Wondering if tomorrow will bring warmth,
companionship, or more of the same.
The sky is bleak in Winter. The air is
chilled from the water. Still they remain.
Before long, Summer's humidity and heat will
make them long for the cold.
The throngs of noisy, careless, indifferent
people will fill their days. Yet they
remain.
Music - a cacophony of sounds - laughter -
shouting - cars - make it impossible to
think, to rest, to be.
Yet carousel horses have no choices in
life. They remain frozen in time. Through
all seasons. Through all sounds. Through all
people. Through all.
