In those days, God-fearing men whipped and challenged Him.
The cross He carried told the tale. The final hours begin.
Walking slowly, He would fall then slowly stand again.
Simon soon would be implored to carry it for Him.
Dressed in purple flowing robes and thorns upon His head
you could tell, with all their hearts, they wished that He were dead.
“Save yourself if you are God,” they nailed Him to the cross.
They could never understand the meaning of the loss.
Then at noon the sky went dark; the Savior passed away.
Mother Mary wept in grief on this first Good Friday.
Disciples hung their heads and cried in misery and gloom.
Holding His now lifeless form, they placed Him in the tomb.
Three days passed and morning broke as they knelt to pray.
Noiselessly they made their way to where Jesus lay.
Shaken, they soon realized the stone was rolled away.
Grief and fear possessed them and they turned to run away.
Suddenly an angel spoke to reassure them there.
He is not here, for Jesus lives – an answer to your prayer!
A stranger then approached them and they offered wine and food.
Then their eyes were opened and they gazed upon the Lord.
Jesus Christ is Risen Today, let holy anthems ring!
Celebrate the miracle of the risen King.
As this Easter morning breaks upon the far horizon
Sing glad alleluias for God’s beloved Son.
Easter blessings!
