Shepherds Sing
by Judith Shields Regini
Christmas 2019

Shepherds woke up from their slumber
To the sound of angel song.
In the sky the star was shining
Bidding them to come along.

Quietly they left the mountain
Following the star’s bright light.
Angels sang in heaven above them
As they walked on through the night.

Soon they stood before the stable
Scared to open up the door.
Fearfully, they pushed it open
Him to cherish and adore.

They saw Joseph, proud and quiet
Standing near the sleeping child.
Near the manger, tired but happy
Precious mother Mary mild.

In the manger, sleeping soundly
Was a tiny baby boy.
He would be the king of nations
He would bring the greatest joy.

Kneeling now before the Christ child
Shepherds praised the sleeping Lord.
Joining with the angels singing
Voices lifted Heavenward.

Wisemen joined the gathered people
Bring gifts of myrrh and gold.
Voices raised in happy chorus
Praising of the birth, foretold.

Angel voices sing his praises
Joy to the World, they sing.
Peace on Earth, goodwill to men.
Let the glorious carols ring!

Merry Christmas!
