The walk was long and painful, the thorns cutting His head.
He made the trip in silence to the place no angels tread.

The women looked away from Him; they could not meet His eyes.
They knew that Jesus soon would die because of all the lies.

Simon of Cyrene would come to help Him bear His load.
He walked right next to Jesus as they traveled “life’s end” road.

The children shoved behind the crowd so that they could not see
the gentle, quiet, loving man be nailed upon a tree.

They mocked Him, hurt Him, laid Him down and nailed Him to the cross.
They could not know the world would blame them for its greatest loss.

He turned His bruised face heavenward and uttered up a cry,
and then Savior of our souls bent down His head to die.

Dark silence filled the world that day; everything seemed lost.
They could not see that Jesus thought that we were worth the cost.

Three days hence they walked in grief toward the tomb’s great stone.
They felt despair and anguish.  They felt all alone.

But as they stood there, lost in pain, a voice was heard to say,
“He is not here. He lives again. Celebrate today!”

Jesus Christ accepted death to save our souls from sin.
So Easter morning, we are called to let the Savior in.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Sing the songs and dance for joy.
The world was saved and man lives on because of Mary’s boy.

Jesus Christ is Risen Today!  Let the anthems ring!
Praise to God’s bright shining Son, our triumphant King!
