Jesus on the donkey and the glad hosannas rang.
Faithful watched with happiness and happily all sang.
The King of Glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before Him, lift up your voices!

All too soon the time would come when happiness would end.
He was savior of the world but could not find a friend.
He prayed at Gethsemane to let this trial go by.
Then he turned and faced the guards, who led Him off to die.

Beaten, whipped, and crowned with thorns,
He walked the Sorrowful Way.
The cross He carried weighed Him down.
He fell along the way.

Simon helped him carry it
To Golgotha that day.
Then Christ was nailed upon the cross
To mark our sins now paid.

They raised the cross up to the sky
With Jesus nailed thereon.
He lifted His head and spoke to God
And then the Son was gone.

Three days later, as they grieved
Exhausted, sad, and dazed.
They were surprised to observe
The stone was rolled away.

Terrified they ran away
To let the people know
That Jesus, Savior of the world,
Was in the tomb no more.

On the way, they ran into
A man dressed all in white.
They recognized Him, cried with joy!
He shown in glorious light!

Jesus Christ is Risen Today! Alleluia!
Our Triumphant Holy Day! Alleluia!
