Mary was exhausted as they traveled down the road.
Joseph, too, was tired and worn, carrying a load.
They were nearing Bethlehem and were ready for a rest.
At the inn they hoped that there was room for two more guests.

They were turned away that night, as there was no more space.
So, they looked around the town and finally found a place.
It was a stable near the inn and the animals therein
Looked at them surprised, but calm, as they slowly entered in.

Joseph sat and watched as Mary settled for a rest.
They didn’t know that soon this night would put them to the test.
Mary was expecting and her time was drawing near.
But even though the times were tough, they did not show fear.

In the quiet, chilly morning, a baby came to birth.
This was God’s own baby boy, the savior to the earth.
Mother Mary held Him close, and Joseph stood nearby.
Then placed Him in a manger, but the infant did not cry.

The townsfolk came to join them, excited to behold
The newborn king, the son of God, a birth that was foretold.
Shepherds came from fields afar, to see the little child.
They were amazed to see Him, at the side of Mary, mild.

Three kings would soon come visit them. They were following the star.
They had traveled all this way and were coming from afar.
Kneeling down before Him, they offered gifts and praise.
Knowing they would praise His birth for the rest of all their days.

Angel choirs proclaimed the birth and joyfully did sing
Songs of praise and happiness welcoming the King.
Now we sing those same glad songs every Christmas day.
Jesus’ birth, a gift from God, we gladly sing, hooray!

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing!
