When Christmas Comes Again
By Judith Shields Regini
Christmas 1999
It was long ago and far away on that first Christmas morn,
When in a stable, cold and damp, the child of God was born.
But now we run to malls and stores, for dolls, and games, and trains.
Will we recall His simple birth, when Christmas comes again?
His mother laid Him gently in a manager in the hay.
She kept Him warm in swaddling clothes, that glorious Christmas day.
Today the churches call to us to praise and to join in
They bid - recall His came for us - when Christmas comes again.
Joseph watched his newborn son with love and fear and awe.
He saw the Child, Emmanuel, asleep upon the straw.
Today we look at lights and shows and sing of snow and rain.
Will we sing of Jesus Christ, when Christmas comes again?
Three kings crossed o'er the countryside, following the star.
They offered gifts of gold and myrrh and knelt before the Lord.
But now the gifts we offer are the latest, greatest thing.
What gifts will we bring to Him, when Christmas comes again?
The angel choir sang out their songs to celebrate His birth.
They told us Christ the King was born; would now reside on earth.
And for our part, we worship Him; Gloria! we sing.
And we will celebrate His birth, when Christmas comes again!
