When I was young, afraid of the dark, I would use a night light
to scare away darkness and keep me safe and make all the world just right.
As I grew older, my fear of the dark began to disappear;
So I traded the night light for the light down the hall
to chase away that fear.
It was dark when Christ was born, the winter winds blew strong
when angel voices filled the air with joyful, glorious song.
They sang of how God’s gift to us, a bouncing baby boy,
nestled in His Mother’s arms, would fill the world with joy.
He was born in Bethlehem in a stable bare
and slept inside a manger under Mary’s constant care.
Kings and princes all were shocked to see a beaming star
leading them to Bethlehem, they traveled from afar.
Shepherds on the hills rejoiced to hear the angels sing
“Gloria in excelsis! Praise the newborn King!”
Shepherds, kings and princes all would bow before the child
whose Mother was God’s chosen one, Mother Mary, mild.
On Christmas night when the stars twinkle up above
Remember how God sent to us his precious gift of love.
A night light gives the little child comfort from the dark.
And God’s night light gave the world
a brilliant, brand new start.
God sent His tiny Son to us to set the world aright
And the star that shined down on His Son
was Heaven’s bright night light.
Merry Christmas!
