The shepherds on the hill that night were tending to their sheep.
While some were working, taking care, others went to sleep.
High upon that hilltop, as the darkness settled in
The town below grew silent, and the wondrous night began.
Animals and people, too, had closed their eyes to dream.
They didn’t know that as they slept a brilliant star would beam.
The stars began to twinkle brightly. Everything was still.
And all was hushed, no sound was heard in Bethlehem until . . .
As the shepherds watched the above, the sky soon filled with light.
A brilliant beam, shown down below, soon everything was bright.
The shepherds woke the other men and all would run to town.
As they followed down the hill, the men would look around.
The star light beamed upon a small and simple kind of place.
The shepherds quickly found the inn, the stable filled with grace.
They entered in and saw a man and woman, and a child.
The man was Joseph and sitting near was his wife young Mary, mild.
In the hay-filled cradle they saw a baby boy.
Kneeling as they neared his bed, they soon were filled with joy.
They were surprised to suddenly see three wise men enter there.
One wise man offered frankincense another offered gold.
The third one offered myrrh and bowed. The story was foretold.
The shepherds felt no fear that night when following the light.
It led them to a baby’s side, there was no need for fright.
They knew this child was God’s own Son and sang songs of great joy.
Here before them slept the savior, God’s own baby boy.
Every Christmas morning as the day begins to dawn
We should be those shepherds and sing our joyous song.
Joy to the World! The Lord is Come!
Let Earth Receive Her King!
Merry Christmas 2024!
